October 2010
Luxury hotel, The Langham, London is launching an exclusive new service for guests to explore the hidden gems in its surrounding neighbourhood.
Walking Tours
Opened in 1865 as Europe’s first ‘Grand Hotel’, from the outset The Langham advertised an unrivalled location at the top of Regent Street. Today, The Langham still stands at the epicentre of the West End uniquely located at the hub of four historic villages of London; Marylebone, Fitzrovia, Mayfair and Soho. Now, The Langham is offering guests complimentary walking tours of Marylebone and Fitzrovia, the perfect introduction to the charming villages that surround the hotel.
Guests can collect a digital audio self-guided walking tour on a pre-loaded MP3 player from Concierge, accompanied by a map and information booklet. This enables guests to tailor the tour themselves allowing them to pause to visit the museums or shops as they pass.
The Marylebone Tour will guide guests through charming residential squares and historic mews taking in the former home of Sherlock Holmes novelist Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and the imposing Hertford House that accommodates the acclaimed masterpieces of The Wallace Collection. Winding through the eclectic mix of designer boutiques and gourmet cafes of Marylebone High Street, guests will discover hidden away treasures including Daunts (the original Edwardian book-shop) and renowned cheese shop and gourmet delicatessen, La Fromagerie.
Fitzrovia is famed as London’s historical artistic and bohemian quarter. The Fitzrovia Tour will encompass former homes of literary luminaries George Orwell and Dylan Thomas as well as the quirky Pollocks Toy Museum and the impressive British Museum. Winding through the small and irregular streets, guests will also visit Fitzroy Square, London’s finest Georgian square and the stylish Charlotte Street, housing many famous restaurants and bars.
