THE LANGHAM, LONDON RESTORES ITS HISTORIC GRAND BALLROOM AND LAUNCHES ‘LANGHAM HOUSE’ – A DEDICATED SPACE FOR EVENTS.
April 2009
This April, sees the completion of an £80 million refurbishment, as The Langham, London re-captures its past splendour whilst offering the latest in current day technologies with fifteen function rooms including the historic Grand Ballroom and a new dedicated venue – Langham House - that blend a sense of the past with the style of today.
Grand Ballroom

Originally the hotel’s dining room, this expansive room has been at the cornerstone of The Langham, since it first opened. Later, as the Grand Ballroom it soon established itself as a legendary venue for lavish celebrations when it was tradition to lay a bridal red carpet across Langham Place from All Souls’ Church to hotel’s doorstep.
This listed space has now been lovingly restored with subtle touches, enhancing the delicate period details that echo its past. Authentic elements have been preserved from the dramatic renaissance pillars to the sparkling chandeliers and the fine hand-painted decorative detailing.
The pale hues of cream, green and gold accentuate the abundance of light that pervades the room through the elaborately draped windows which open on to a terrace overlooking a tranquil courtyard. A rare treasure in London, this courtyard will be upgraded in readiness for the 2010 summer season, when it will offer the quiet outdoor retreat of an English courtyard rose garden suitable for alfresco events.
The flexible space of the Grand Ballroom measures 364 m2 (3,921 ft2), comfortably accommodating up to 375 for a reception or 280 for a seated dinner, or for business events, up to 300 theatre style.
Immediately adjoining is a newly created pre-function space also benefitting from natural daylight, The Portland Foyer.
Langham House

Langham House was originally a separate residential address when The Langham first opened and now it has been seamlessly integrated into the hotel’s infrastructure, benefitting from the identical original architectural façade. To cater to modern business needs, the interior has been substantially re-built offering the most up-to-date business services and meeting space.
With a brand new dedicated entrance on Portland Place, Langham House’s grand entrance hallway leads to the Grand Ballroom and also to a dedicated reception desk and business centre with six individually equipped work stations. Set over two floors, the four new contemporary styled meeting rooms benefit from their own comfortable lounge style pre-function areas as well as natural daylight throughout.
Named after the original villages of London in closest proximity to the hotel, the larger rooms, The Marylebone and The Fitzrovia, (accommodating up to 60 and 50 persons respectively) can been be sub-divided for increased flexibility. The Soho, a stylish ultra-modern boardroom for up to 10, features floor to ceiling glass walls, while The Mayfair, located in the original part of Langham House, is also decorated in a contemporary fashion yet accentuating the original high ceilings, large picture windows and fireplaces. The layout of Langham House has been designed to enable the whole space to be reserved for one client, for total exclusivity and privacy, and yet, it has easy and direct connectivity with the main hotel lobby and Portland Foyer pre-function area, so the space may also serve as breakout rooms to support larger business events.
Each function room is fitted with wall mounted plasma screens, have wireless internet capability, with conference telephones and data projectors available upon request with the support of a technology “butler”.
Private Carriage Rooms.

This summer also sees the refurbishment of The Langham’s remaining seven private functions rooms, which are easily-accessed one level below the main lobby and ranging in size to cater for 8-40 persons for dinner or in a boardroom setting. The Private Carriage Rooms have been re-named after horse-drawn carriages used in town by affluent Victorians. This continues the theme from The Langham’s signature restaurant, The Landau, as these spaces will be best suited for more intimate gatherings with menus specially created by Andrew Turner, the creative influence behind the success of The Landau. This collection of rooms is more traditionally styled and also enjoys natural daylight and most feature their own marble fireplaces.
