The Langham, London – 2008 Refurbishment Q&A

The Langham, London has entered the major phase of its multi-million pound development to re-position the hotel as one of London’s top grand, luxury hotels. It remains fully operational with a reduced number of 160 rooms and suites, The Landau restaurant, Artesian bar and a purpose built temporary entrance and lobby on Regent Street.

Are Artesian and The Landau open as usual?

Artesian, our chic and glamorous bar, and The Landau, our stylish new restaurant will remain fully open during this time. These areas formed the first phase of our multi-million pound refurbishment which is now completed.

Is the hotel closed?

No, the hotel is fully operational but with a reduced number of rooms and temporary, purpose-built public areas, including an entrance on Regent Street.

This is the major phase of the refurbishment with the closure of the main hotel lobby, public areas, Palm Court, the Ballroom and all private function rooms, plus around 260 guest rooms. These areas will re-open after a total transformation in early 2009.

In the interim, the hotel will continue to fully operate with a reduced inventory of around 160 rooms and suites including The Langham Hotel Club rooms and both club lounges. A new purpose built entrance lobby, reception and concierge have been constructed opening directly on to Langham Place/Regent Street, formerly the Health Club entrance.

Artesian and The Landau will remain fully operational, as will our Health and Fitness Club, swimming pool and gym. A full service will be offered in all the remaining rooms.

Where is the hotel entrance?

The hotel entrance is on Langham Place, at the north end of Regent Street at the corner of Wigmore Street. Nearest tube is Oxford Circus.

Will there be construction noise and disruption?

Construction impact should be minimized as the majority of the remaining rooms are sited away from the construction zone, or in the case of the Club Rooms, in a separate building.

Why is this refurbishment taking place?

The Langham, London is being refurbished as the global flagship property of Langham Hotels International. Our vision is to restore the hotel as one of the top Grand hotels of London, a position the hotel enjoyed when it was first opened in 1865 by The Prince of Wales.

When will the work be finished?

We anticipate this work being completed at the end of 2008 with the main entrance, lobby, Palm Court, Ballroom, Private dining rooms and some guest rooms re-opening in January 2009, with some remaining guest rooms re-opening on a phased basis until April 2009. Upon completion in April 2009 the hotel will have 384 rooms and suites, reduced from 425, as some of the smaller rooms have been amalgamated to create spacious Langham Rooms and Junior Suites.

Will the remaining 160 rooms be renovated?

A full renovation of the remaining 160 rooms and suites is not yet confirmed, but may occur at some point in the near future. However, during 2008 we will be investing more funding to make some noticeable upgrades to these remaining rooms, Club rooms and Suites, including a redecoration and the installation of flat screen televisions.

Will the hotel have any meeting facilities in 2008?

The Langham, London will have very limited facilities for meetings and private events in 2008, as these facilities will be undergoing a full refurbishment.

Postillion, the private dining room at The Landau, the new David Collins designed restaurant, will be available for small receptions, lunches and dinners for up to 16 persons. Renowned Head Chef, Andrew Turner, will create individually designed menus from his contemporary European cuisine that features some of the best British ingredients and a few surprising twists.

Also, The Langham Hotel Club Boardroom is available for meetings for up to 8 persons. Further enquiries on private events in 2008 can be made to our sales department and we are accepting reservations for private events from March 2009.
