Bring the family along to the Mayor's Thames Festival

London weekend breaks

Event: Mayor's Thames Festival
Dates: September 10th and 11th
Venue: Between the London Eye and London Bridge

Bring the family along to enjoy the free Mayor's Thames Festival this September to help celebrate the end of summer.

Every year since 1997, families on London weekend breaks have been able to enjoy the festival, which sees the river and the roads surrounding it transformed.

The festival tends to be a vibrant mix of music, dancing, feasting, river racing and street arts, with a carnival atmosphere.

One of the highlights tends to be the Night Carnival, which is held on the final evening of the event.

Thousands of people join a parade of costumed musicians and performers who travel throughout London.

People on London family vacations will also be able to see art installations, circus acts, street theatre and choral performances.

This year's sponsor is Barclaycard. Dan Mathieson, head of sponsorship at the firm, said: "It's wonderful to be associated with this truly memorable event that just gets better and better, and that Londoners enjoy so much."

In 2010, 825,000 people attended the event.

After enjoying the Mayor's Thames Festival, visitors may like to retire to a London family hotel, such as The Langham.
