See the fourth plinth proposals before the winner is chosen
afternoon tea
Event: Fourth Plinth Proposals
Date: Until October 31st
Venue: St-Martin-in-the-Fields.
Contemporary art fans may like to see the Fourth Plinth Proposals in order to view what may be adorning the column in Trafalgar Square in 2012.
After a delicious afternoon tea in the capital, holidaymakers in London could head to Trafalgar Square and view a Battenberg cake, a blue cockerel and a pipe organ, which are just some of the proposals.
The pieces will be on display until October 31st and the two winners, chosen by a panel of eight judges, will be announced at the beginning of next year.
Visitors to London will then be able to see the winning pieces adorning the fourth plinth in Trafalgar Square, replacing the current ship in a bottle, in 2012.
The other proposals include a raised mountain with the outline of Britain underneath, a boy on a golden rocking horse and a replica of the statue of Sir George White covered in jewels.
British artist Brian Griffiths designed the giant Battenberg cake, which was invented in 1884 as a royal wedding present and told the Guardian that self-effacing British humour was his inspiration.
After a spot of afternoon tea and viewing the fourth plinth proposals visitors can retire in style to the five star Langham, London hotel.
