Tourists can discover more about the British monarch through anew exhibition, entitled The Queen's Year.

People on a cultural break may like to browse the exhibition andexplore the rooms of the royal residence before staying at afive star hotel.

This year, Buckingham Palace is displaying rarely-seen treasuresthat belong to the 84-year-old monarch including her 18 foot longRobes of State.

David Oakey, co-curator of the exhibition, told the AssociatedPress: "It's really designed to provide an insight into the Queen'slife, all the things Her Majesty is involved in during the courseof the year.

"We always try and present an aspect of the Queen. People willbe aware that the Queen works really hard, but they might not knowhow."

Buckingham Palace, which has been the official London residenceof the British monarchy since 1837, is always open to the publicfor two months over the summer when the Queen is not inresidence.

Visitors can explore 19 state rooms and see objects such as theQueen's dresses, hats worn at Ascot and gifts given to her onvisits overseas.

More than 400,000 visitors are expected to attend the exhibitionthis year and a new tourist cafe that overlooks the gardens hasjust been opened.
