Gauguin retrospective coming to Tate Modern

5 star hotel

Event: Gauguin
Dates: September 30th to January 16th
Location: Tate Modern

A trip to a 5 star hotel may be requisite for art lovers this autumn, as one of the biggest exhibitions of the year wows the capital.

On  September 30th, Tate Modern will be unveiling its Gauguin retrospective, London's first in more than 50 years to focus on one of the 20th century's most loved artists.

Booking into a 5 star hotel could be a great way for visitors to make the most of a weekend break in London.

Along with Cezanne and van Gogh, Gauguin is today seen as one of the pioneers of post impressionism.

The new exhibition collects some of the artist's most revered works, which were painted while he travelled the world, stopping in Peru and Martinique among other places.

Visitors to the museum will be able to explore themes common throughout Gauguin's work, such as his tendency to place himself in his paintings, often as a Christ-like figure and sometimes as a demon.

Amateur art critics can discuss these and other motifs while enjoying fine dining at the Landau, a top London restaurant.

The exhibition will be on show until January 16th, 2011.
