Visitors to the capital this winter may like to see some impressive modern art at the Gauguin exhibition.

This exhibition, dedicated to the French post-impressionist artist, is set to be one of the events of the year and art fans could make a day of it by staying at one of the best London hotels.

The Tate Modern will be displaying paintings depicting scenes from across the world by the 20th century artist.

Highlights include colourful images of women in Tahiti and landscapes of Brittany in France.

Many of his iconic paintings will be showcased including images of nude bathers in Breton and those of daily village life from the artist's colony of Pont-Aven.

The way in which Paul Gauguin presents himself in his own work - including as a Christ-like figure or a demon - will be explored.

"We have to wait until September for the event of the year: the first important Gauguin exhibition in Britain for 50 years … Be prepared for stunning impressionism, brilliant symbolism, inventive sculpture and pioneering ceramics," reviewed the Sunday Times.

After a day looking at some of the greatest work to emerge from the 20th century, visitors could retire to one of the best hotels in London - the Langham, London.
