Trooping the Colour could enhance a trip to the capital

Five star hotel

Event: Trooping the Colour
Date: June 12th
Location: St James's Park

Trooping the Colour, the official celebration of the Queen's birthday, is set to take place in under two weeks' time.

The traditional event, which has taken place in London since 1820, is a colourful military parade which could offer the perfect cultural treat for a family on a London weekend getaway.

While the event is televised across the world, watching it on the screen does not compare to viewing the attraction first-hand in one of the capital's most iconic locations.

Taking place on Horse Guards Parade in London's St James's Park, the event sees the Queen inspect the troops from the Household Division before leading them down the Mall to Buckingham Palace.

While mums and dads might enjoy the history and pomp of the day, the younger ones could get most enjoyment out of the guns fired in Green Park and the Tower of London, or the RAF flypast which takes place at the end of the formalities.
