Meltdown Festival 2010 promises to be as exciting as ever, with one of the world's best guitarists directing the event.

Established in 1993, this annual Southbank-based festival is a must-do for many people both in and outside of London.

This year's musical director is folk-rock legend Richard Thompson, who started his career with Fairport Convention before going solo and receiving a great deal of critical acclaim.

Indeed, the musician was named by Rolling Stone magazine as one of the top 20 guitarists of all time.

It appears he is pretty good at organising a festival too, with some of the performances on offer including Seasick Steve, Broken Bells and both Martha and Rufus Wainwright.

Richard Thompson has worked with the likes of Bob Dylan, Elvis Costello and Nick Drake during his career.
