Make the most of free ballet and opera this summer

London weekend getaway

Event: BP Summer Big Screens
Date: Until July 13th

Whether a seasoned expert or a first-timer, people can enjoy some free opera and ballet across the capital this summer.

Free viewings of such cultural shows could provide the perfect opportunity for people to do something a little different during a London weekend getaway.

Three shows will be put on during the summer – Carmen, Simon Boccanegra and Chroma.

The live performances, which will take place at the Royal Opera House, will be shown for free on a number of screens across the country, with London boasting four.

Known as the BP Summer Big Screens, the capital's showings will take place in Trafalgar Square, Canary Wharf, General Gordon Place in Woolwich and Walthamstow Town Square.

Seats are distributed on a first-come first-served basis, so those wishing to get close to the screen should be sure to arrive early.

People should also remember that this is England and these are outdoor screenings, so taking an umbrella might be a sensible idea – just in case.

After enjoying the showing at one of the BP Summer Big Screens, visitors can retire in style to the five star Langham, London hotel.
