Children will remember not to forget the Elephant Parade

London family vacation

Event: Elephant Parade London 2010
Date: May 2nd to June 30th
Location: Across London

Those on a trip out in London over the next month can look forward to getting involved in the capital's largest ever outdoor art event.

Elephant Parade, which has been initiated by conservationist group Elephant Family, aims to raise awareness of the endangered Asian elephant.

Between May 2nd and June 30th, some 258 brightly-painted life size baby elephant statues will be dotted around various locations in central London, each having been decorated by a different artists or celebrity.

It is estimated that approximately 25 million people will see the elephants, with the campaign hoping to raise £2 million for the Asian elephant in addition to 20 British conservation charities.

Many of the elephants are located in the West End, the South Bank and Bankside, while more are located at Elephant & Castle.

Joanna Lumley, who has lent her support to the campaign, said it would be "dreadful" if the Asian elephant was to become extinct.

"Let's make sure they will still be there to remember that we didn't turn our backs on them," she commented.

After an exhausting day walking around London's West End and South Bank, a stay in The Langham London could be the perfect way to cap off a London family vacation.
